Our Guest Post today is Danny Evison! He discusses the awesomeness of home cooking! Enjoy!
So, my second blog post for the most awesome Earthfood Experiment, and this week I will be talking about the joys of home cooking. Ain’t nothing like a good home cooked meal, that’s what my mother used to say. Well she didn’t but she should have because it’s true. Take the same meal you would normally eat from a jar tin or microwave and make it yourself and you’ll be amazed at how much better it will taste and how much better it will be for you. I was also pleasantly surprised at how much cheaper it was to make my own good, mostly organic food than it was to just get it pre made. Take spaghetti bolognase for example. Get a jar of Dolmio or Ragu and you get a jar full of GMO ingredients, preservatives and god knows what else in terms of pesticides and other yummy poisons.
Leave a fresh, garden grown tomato on your side and it will have grown legs and walked off within a few days. Ever wondered why you can leave a jar of pre made sauce for months and it will still taste brand new? There’s no nice answer to that one. Making food yourself may be more time consuming, and may take a little more planning, but the end result is sooo much better. Your ingredients are fresh, and you know exactly what is going in to your food. Also home cooked food is not made in a factory; it is made with love, by you, in your own kitchen. The energy you put in to something is the energy you get out of it, so make your own food and see how much better it tastes, and how much better it makes you feel.
All this talk of food is making me hungry, think I’ll leave it there for this week and go see what I can rustle up in the kitchen.
